Double-Storey Wraparound Extension & Full Refurbishment

A major transformation including a double-storey wraparound extension, open-plan structural alterations and comprehensive refurbishment throughout the house.

This project transformed a family home with a new double-storey wraparound extension and major internal alterations. The existing layout was substantially reconfigured, with structural works to create a larger open-plan living space and to improve the way the rooms connect.

Wrapping an extension around the side and rear of a house over two floors puts new loads through the corner of the building and through the walls that are opened up inside. The steelwork, foundations and roof junctions were planned so the new structure could be tied into the existing house cleanly, and the photographs show the steel, joists and blockwork going in stage by stage.

Alongside the structure, the house was refurbished throughout so that the old and new parts read as one home, including finished bedrooms and a new family bathroom. The result is a significantly enlarged, modern and functional family home designed around spacious open-plan living.
